Can we build a community that works for ALL of us? Our society is gradually becoming more diverse.

Has church become the last stronghold of political conservatism?  If so, why is that a good thing, and what does that have to do with loving our neighbors as ourselves?

Truth with a capital T” is universal. If we are having trouble convincing someone of our “truth,” then it is probably NOT “Truth with a capital T.” 

Oneness underlies our apparent separation. Do we act or speak to proselytize people or to win an argument? Why? Do we act or speak to protect people or to seek understanding? Why NOT?

We should think before we speak. We can take our beliefs too seriously. And we can take them too personally, too. Differences of opinion are NOT always attacks on our characters.

The government has to be an essential partner in helping the needy, including the poor, veterans and other deserving people. That’s OK.

I talk to a lot of people who are experiencing some existential exhaustion. They worry about how they will live and how they will die. They worry about climate change and nuclear wars.

Do we consider the other side of the story? Sometimes, we feel pretty strongly about our political and religious beliefs if we do not consider the legitimacy of other beliefs.

“Don’t believe everything you think.” Do we have good reasons for our beliefs? Sometimes, people make pretty strong statements without having objective evidence or subjective experience.

Everyone has beliefs, and beliefs are not inherently good or bad, in and of themselves. Beliefs can be problematic when we confuse our beliefs with facts or when we impose our beliefs on others.

In The Way, I suggest that we should hold our political and religious beliefs more loosely.
