Why I Always Say, "You Might Be Right."

Feb 09, 2024 by Larry Jordan

“You might be right” emerged as an unscripted theme during my first author talk in Crestone, Colorado. This disarming phrase has become one of my catchphrases.

Awe, Gratitude, Reverence, and a Sense of Responsibility

Dec 03, 2023 by Larry Jordan

We believe different things for different reasons. Sometimes, our beliefs are rational or sensible. Sometimes, our beliefs are borne of experience. Sometimes, our beliefs are due to fear or insecurity. Some people believe things because it feels more comfortable to believe them.

The Seventh Principle

Nov 09, 2023 by Larry Jordan

Last month, the local Unitarian Universalist church asked me to speak about the seventh principle, "Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part," since the principle so closely matches my one-line creed that "Everyone is related, and everything is connected."

A Minister, a Rabbi, and a Zen Teacher Walk into a Bookstore

Sep 10, 2023 by Larry Jordan

A minister, a rabbi, and a Zen teacher walk into a bookstore. If this is the setup for a corny joke, then the punchline is that they all like the same book.

The Joe Shlabotnik of Spiritual Writing

Joe Shlabotnik was Charlie Brown's favorite major league baseball player. Joe's unfortunate claim to fame was making spectacular catches of routine fly balls.

Less Than I Expected

Sep 05, 2023 by Larry Jordan

Recently, I posted about the joys of writing. The post was heartfelt and true, and it best reflects my feelings about writing, but it was not the whole story. There are some frustrations of writing, too.

More Than I Expected

Aug 29, 2023 by Larry Jordan

My adult children encouraged me to write The Way, and the book was modeled after an “ethical will” in the Jewish tradition. An ethical will is NOT an autobiography. Instead, it is an expression of one’s experiences, life lessons, and values.

Crestone, Colorado

Apr 12, 2023 by Larry Jordan
In 2017, we walked the Camino de Crestone, an interspiritual pilgimage in Crestone, Colorado, where we visited many spiritual centers, representing several of the world's great traditions. While there, we engaged in discussions, listened to lectures, and participated in ceremonies.

Soul Doubt

Mar 11, 2023 by Larry Jordan
Soul Doubt, an engaging, hoppy IPA, is my favorite beer at my favorite brewery. It might also be the label for some of the most engaging, hoppy conversations that I have had since I wrote a book about God and the Universe.

Love: Attraction, Impersonality, Unconditionality, and Witness

Feb 13, 2023 by Larry Jordan

A few years ago, I read a book that suggested that the Universe is governed by attraction. In the physical world, we call it "gravity," and in the metaphysical world, we call it "love."

False Choices and Leading Questions

Jan 06, 2023 by Larry Jordan
Recently, I was on a call with Jim Palmer, an interfaith spiritual director who promotes a non-religious spirituality. When he was asked, "Do you believe in God," Jim gave a nuanced response, suggesting that simplistic questions can present false choices.

Today is the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, the beginning of winter and the longest night of the year.

What is Your Spiritual Practice?

Dec 03, 2022 by Larry Jordan
After I sent my manuscript to several spiritual writers, I heard back from a progressive Christian author with 350,000 Facebook followers, who wants to endorse the book. "What is your spiritual practice?" he asked me.

Questions are Being Answered

Nov 16, 2022 by Larry Jordan
I am beginning to query agents, in hopes of finding someone to represent me and my book to the big publishers. It is common to query 100 agents and receive 99 rejections. (You only need one offer.)

"He's a Writer Now..."

Nov 12, 2022 by Larry Jordan
I spent 25 years in the investment banking business, and people sometimes ask me about the economy. At breakfast with friends, someone asked me about the economy, and I answered with an awkward silence. My friend bailed me out. "He's a writer now. He's not a banker anymore."

"You Might be Right..."

Oct 30, 2022 by Larry Jordan

For my first author talk in Crestone, I prepared a bunch of notes and printed out a bunch of excerpts, but I spoke off the cuff, anyway. One theme that emerged from the talk was "You might be right..."

Publishing Part V: "How is Your Book Doing?"

Oct 13, 2022 by Larry Jordan
When people ask me how my book is doing, the honest answer is "Very well, considering that it's not yet available in bookstores or libraries or online." So far, I printed up some proofs, I sold some at author talks and book clubs, and I sent some to a few influencers.
